What do I need to install the Neopets Toolbar?

The system requirements to install the Neopets Toolbar are:

Why can't I install the Neopets Toolbar into other browsers, such as Netscape, Opera and the AOL Browser?

The Neopets Toolbar is powered by Microsoft's ActiveX technology, which is currently only supported by Microsoft Windows operating systems with Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox.

How do I know what version of Internet Explorer I have?

  •   Open Internet Explorer
  •   Click on "Help" in the menu bar at the top of the Internet Explorer Window
  •   Click on "About Internet Explorer"
  •   Look for the numbers after the word "Version". For example, 6.0.2600.000 is version 6.0

How do I know what version of Firefox I have?

  •   Open Firefox
  •   Click on "Help" in the menu bar at the top of the Firefox Window
  •   Click on "About Mozilla Firefox"
  •   Look for the numbers after the word "Version". For example, 1.06

Does the Neopets Toolbar have multiple language support?

The NeopetsToolbar includes English and Spanish language versions.

Note: Firefox requires a localized Firefox version, or language pack.

The Neopets Toolbar didn't install. What is wrong?

The source of the problem is:
    1. You have Windows NT/2000/XP and do not have Administrative Privileges.
      Please log off your computer and login as Administrator, or contact your network administrator for help.
    2. Your Security Settings are too high.
      To change your settings,
      · Go to the IE menu
      · Click "View" or "Tools"
      · Select "Internet Options"
      · Select the "Security" tab
      · Change the Security to "Medium" or "Low"
      · Restart the install process

Why do I get a Security Warning that asks me if I want to install and run the Neopets Toolbar?

Your security settings are set so that you are prompted before any programs are installed on your machine. The dialogue box is just asking you to confirm that you want to install the Neopets Toolbar.

I've installed the Neopets Toolbar, but I can't find it on my browser. Where is it?

Internet Explorer:
  •   If you do not see the Neopets Toolbar, click on "View" on top of the IE menu, mouse-over "Toolbars" and make sure "Neopets" is checked.
  •   Another approach is to right click on the default IE toolbar with your mouse, and select "Neopets" to appear on the browser.
  •   If you have IE 5, it is known that the earlier builds of IE 5 has a problem with support for custom toolbars. If this is the case, the Neopets Toolbar may be listed under the name "Radio", which is usually the second listing. Please go to View > Toolbars and select the second option.
  •   If you have IE 6 and you are experiencing trouble downloading the Neopets Toolbar, please make sure the following item is enabled in your browser: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Enable third party browser extensions.
Mozilla Firefox:
  • If you do not see the Neopets Toolbar, click on "View" on top of the Firefox menu, mouse-over "Toolbars" and make sure "Neopets Toolbar" is checked.
  • If you're still unable to see the Toolbar in your Firefox window, please make sure that the Toolbar was installed properly. To do this, please click "Tools" > "Extensions" in your Firefox browser window to find out if "Neopets Toolbar" is listed. If it is not listed, please follow this procedure to manually install the extension:
    • Open C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Neopets Toolbar and look for file "vsitoolbar.xpi". You can either drag and drop the file to a Firebox browser window, or, you can open the file from the Firefox menu "File -> Open File"
    • If you cannot find "vsitoolbar.xpi" in the above folder, please:
      1. Delete any other files in the folder if they exist
      2. Download the toolbar from  http://toolbar.neopets.com/install.aspx  and run the installation again.

After installing the Neopets Toolbar, my default email service (Outlook, etc) was replaced by Neopets Webmail, which I do not want. Can I have my original service back?

Using Neopets Webmail as your email service is an option that you can enable or disable. Please find Toolbar Options under the Neopets drop down menu. Under first tab "General" you can uncheck "Have Email Links Use Neopets Webmail".

After I installed Neopets Toolbar on Internet Explorer, I do not have pop-up windows anymore from some of the sites that I regularly visit. I need them back?

  • By default Neopets Toolbar enables the "Pop-Up Blocker" feature which keeps your screen free from the annoying pop-up ads. If you'd like to disable it, please find Toolbar Options under the Neopets drop down menu. Under 2nd tab "Pop-Up Blocker" you can disable the feature.
  • Or, you can customize the Neopets Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker so it only allows pop-ups from sites that you approve. Please find Toolbar Options under the Neopets drop down menu. Under 2nd tab "Pop-Up Blocker", in the "Always Allow Pop-Ups from These Sites" box, you can click "Add" and type in the address (or URL) of the sites you want to allow pop-ups.

Note: Pop-Up Blocker is an IE-only feature.

How do I update the Neopets Toolbar to the latest version?

Internet Explorer:- You don't have to do anything. The Neopets Toolbar will update itself once new features are available.

Mozilla Firefox:- Select Tools and then select extensions. A new window will appear. Select the Neopets Toolbar and click the update button. The toolbar will update to the latest version.

What URL do I send to my friends so they can install the Neopets Toolbar?
You can access the Neopets Toolbar site at   http://toolbar.neopets.com 

After I choose one of the East Asian languages (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese or Korean) under the language menu of the installer, the dialog in the installation window does not display correctly in the language I've chosen. What should I do?

In order for the Neopets Toolbar Installer to display the East Asian languages correctly on an English-language OS, please go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced -> Language for non-Unicode programs. Choose the corresponding language in the menu. Note that this change requires a reboot. After the language is set you can go through the installation process with the East Asian languages.

With IE, why am I seeing 4 unrecognizable languages (displayed as "□ □ □") under the Toolbar Options/Select Language menu?

In order for IE to display the 4 East Asian languages correctly (Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese, and Korean) you need to install East Asian language support. Please go to Control Panel/Regional and Languages Options/Languages/Supplemental Language Support, and check "Install files for East Asian languages"

With Firefox, why am I not seeing other languages under Toolbar Options/Select Language menu?

In order for Firefox to display multiple languages, you need to first install the Firefox language extensions. Check Tools/Extensions to find out what you have and do not have, and download/install the Language Pack that you need.

How do I uninstall the Neopets Toolbar?

  • Select the Neopets main button on the toolbar to reveal the menu options.
  • Under 'About Neopets Toolbar' select Uninstall Toolbar.
  • You will be asked to enter Feedback information and click the send button.
  • Close your browser window.

My browser randomly crashes after I installed the Neopets Toolbar. What is wrong?

The Neopets Toolbar might conflict with other third-party browser plug-ins installed in your system. If you want to continue using the Neopets Toolbar, please uninstall all browser plug-ins and see if that solves the problem.

How do I report a problem?
Please select the feedback link under the Neopets main menu in 'About Neopets Toolbar' to report any glitches or problems that the Neopets Toolbar may have caused.

How do I cancel my premium service?

In order to cancel your service with Neopets Premium Services we will need you to contact Neopets Premium Technical Support by phone or e-mail only if located outside the United States. For your convenience, please have the following information available:

  • Username (e-mail address and/or screen name)
  • Mailing address and/or phone number
  • Number of credit card that you charged the service to (the last four digits are used for verification purposes)
